Magnetic Separation equipment is used to remove ferrous tramp metal contaminants from dry particulate, liquids, and slurries in the process of grain, feed, sugar, cereal, chemical, mineral, plastics, oil, textile, salt, pharmaceuticals, and recycled products to name a few. A partial list of Separation Equipment would include magnetic plates, grates, drawers, drums, humps, pulleys, spouts, and belts. These magnetic separators will ensure product purity and protect processing equipment form tramp metal damage.

Magnetic separators are designed to separate ferrous materials from non-magnetic materials. The ferrous materials are usually impurities of varying particle size (from the micron level upto large pieces of tramp iron) and their extraction either improves the purity level of a bulk product or protects sensitive machinery (crushers, blades et.c) Separation techniques are also used in metal recycling to sort ferrous from non-ferrous material and for conveying cans in canning factories.

Magma offers a variety of product types for magnetic separators:

Grids - comprised of high strength magnets contained in stainless steel tubes which are configured into a grid arrangement. The bulk material (usually in powder or granulated form) passes through the grid and the iron remains on the magnetized tubes.
Liquid Traps - similar tubes are mounted in a housing which, in turn, is built into a liquid feed- or pipeline. Drums - positioned at the end of a conveyor where high volumes of bulk material flow over the partially magnetized core. The bulk product gravitates off while the ferrous impurities are carried further round the drum and released at the end of the magnetic field into a separate recepticle.
Pulleys - a full magnetic axle built into a conveyor. Works in a similar fashion to the drum.
Plates - a static rectangular mass of magnets used around (normally above) a conveyor to trap iron out of a fast flowing mass.
Bars - a concentrated bar of magnets placed in close proximity to a conveyor where a delicate uniform product such as non-woven fabric is processed.
Cross Belt or Overband Conveyors - used where there is a high percentage of iron which needs to be cleared away from the main product line. Also used in metal recycling.
Eddy Current - Used to separate non-magnetic metals from waste.
Other Conveyors - the transportation of tin cans (for example) can be facilitated with magnetic conveyors.

Black powder, a ferrous contaminant created by internal erosion and corrosion of carbon steel pipelines and operating equipment, causes many operational problems. Black powder ranges from 100 microns and greater to sub-micron sizes, with the majority being ferrous (on average 80 percent) and silica (20 percent). Utilizing rare earth technology, The Black Powder Magnetic Separator System enables highly efficient separation of ferrous and in many applications non-ferrous particles (due to static adhesion) in gas and hydrocarbon transmission systems. The design creates multiple powerful compressed magnetic fields that encircle the magnetic separator element. Some older methods, just incert magnets into the flow, but these present a great risk to the system down stream equipment, as there is nothing to prevent wash off of the collected contaminant.
